Paper shredding and confidential documents
You may have noticed that there are two paper shredders in the lab by the printers (one in the Copy/Fax room, one by Tasmania).
- Use the shredders for confidential documents. Don't throw confidential documents in the trash or recycling.
EMPTY the shredders when they start to look full. Just pull out the bucked from the front and dump it in the recycling tub. Please don't let the shredders fill all the way up - if they do, they make a horrible mess when you empty them.
- Each shredder has a small container of "shredder oil" located somewhere nearby. Once a month we're supposed to dribble shredder oil along the length of the shredder blades and run them for a few seconds to keep them nice and lubricated. Now we all know that no one will ever remember to do this, so if you find yourself shredding lots of documents, you might want to drizzle in a little oil just to make the shredder happy.
